Default Ibanez Two - Point on GC

Is this a nice instrument? Good deal? All I can find on searching is a M522, which is a cheap f style with a hideous open scroll. It's a '70s two point, which makes it quite beautiful, but if it is a wall hanger, that price is way too high.

It looks nice , I have two of them , I paid a lot less for mine, they both sound great to me, I'm a big fan of 70's-80's Ibanez mandolins, I have quite a few different ones. There is one on eBay for buy it now $239 I would have bought it already but I just ordered an octave solidbody 5 string so I spent my budget this month. NFI

I am getting "no results found" at OP's link.

I have an Ibanez like the one in darryl's link. The sound is thin, to be kind.

If you mean this Model 522, it is indeed a two-point, one of the many many "Jethro looking" Asian-made instruments sold under a variety of names.\

Some like them, some are underwhelmed, but I wouldn't pay $600 for one.

That's the one. I don't know why I couldn't copy that link properly. It's stunning, but I hesitate to buy Ibanez as they tend to be unimpressive sounding.

If you could get one cheap maybe it would be worth it to put a carved top with F-holes on her? Well depending are they flat backs? I know nothing about Ibanez mandos except they had some pretty ok F-5 styles in the late 70's? Along the lines of those Aria pros?

Don’t spend that much! They show up for under three hundred bucks fairly often.

I inquired about that mandolin many, MANY months ago, and it is NOT in good physical shape - there are huge chips taken out of the points and binding. I don't remember what they said about the playability of the mandolin, but I felt that it was not worth that kind of money in such poor physical shape . . . and if that is what the visible damage is, I have to wonder what other sort of invisible structural damage is also present. I have kept a curious eye on it over the months to see if the price would eventually drop, but it hasn't come down a single cent.

I guess that explains the fuzzy photo. I'd surely enjoy landing a two - point, but even I'm not pinhead enough to waste my time on this specimen.

I sure wouldn’t go to the labor or expense of re topping the thing, no matter how cheaply it could be obtained. Keep an eye out, you never know what you might find, there is one with your name on it somewhere.

There are a bunch of these coming up for sale (for less money, generally), labeled Ibanez, Alvarez, Aria and perhaps some other labels. The Aria ones are the only ones I've seen with f-holes, but I haven't done a lot of on-line looking.

Gibson came out with a two-point, oval-hole A-5 in the '60's, and it was their "Jethro Burns" model since Burns played one. The same design, with the Gibson F-model "scroll" headstock, was copied by at least one Japanese manufacturer, who presumably suppled Aria, Ibanez, and Alvarez with near-identical instruments.

I've not heard that these mandolins were anything special, other than being quite attractive in appearance. Were I interested in one, I'd hope to pay somewhere around $300 for it.

IMHO they're not worth $300. I'd be thrilled if anyone offered me that much for mine.

They are not that great! I've owned a few, both oval and f-hole. Alvarez, Ibanez, Aria, etc. Not too much difference, IMHO.

Not that they are bad, that is. Just belong under $500 bucks.

Look at post 12, maybe you can get a deal from Jaycat!?
NFI, just saying he’s got one, maybe there’s a deal there.
