Thread: Setlist

  1. #1

    Default Setlist

Got a gig playing solo mandolin during the dinner at a wedding Saturday. No sound reinforcement, strolling about perhaps. Hope this is enough (and I can focus the bifocals on it to read it from one tune to the next) to get me through the medleys of tunes.

One I wrote that I haven't named yet. No one will know any of the tunes, so why not?

Hey, throw in Haste To the Wedding, Mairi's Wedding, maybe some waltzes. Or you could add Give Me Back the Five Dollars (I Paid For My Wife), maybe Bald-Headed End of a Broom or Bachelor's Hall.

Without the words, no one will guess the anti-marriage themes...

We usually do Lost Girl and Hangman's Reel for weddings. We of course don't say the names of these tunes.

I have done a few strolling gigs and depending on how large the room/area is you most likely can play a lot of the songs more than once....I played once for Ted Turners Olympic fund raiser and the room was so large that we must have only played 6-7 tunes over and over, of course they all wanted to hear Rockytop. Fox On The Run and The Orange Blossom special.....

    Good luck and have fun...

Engelmann--play 'em at easy tempos and purty.

Had an amazing lightning/thunder show yesterday. Hope the back roads are passable and there's no storm today.

It's a good thing the music was great because the scenery was only tolerable.
