Do any of your local music stores offer mandolin lessons?
Jon,I found a music shop in OKC that has lessons. Thanks,Bigjack
Is this the most concise thread ever?
I love the global aspect of MC. It especially strikes me when I see place names like Kent or Surrey UK and think 'not Kent WA, or not Surrey, BC'. Then there are the Nacgadocheses.
You have lots of options! I have no idea what might be available locally in OKC, but the internet has many helpful tools. There are lots of free lessons on YouTube for starters; there are many websites with mandolin tips, chords, etc.
I've been taking lessons from Pete Martin, who teaches by Skype or FaceTime as well as in person. I had a couple of lessons in person when I lived close enough to Seattle to get there, but have been taking lessons with him on FaceTime for over three years now, and it is pretty amazing how well it works. Some things are actually better than a lesson in person -- I'm tuned up and warmed up the minute the computer connects, and the minute we're done I can practice what I've just learned to help it stick in my head.
I can highly recommend Pete, and there are others who teach over the internet as well -- check out a potential teacher's website, try a free lesson or two and see how their style of teaching will work for you.
And here on the Cafe you'll meet people -- early on I posted that I was looking for a slow jam, and found a couple of the best Mando-buddies ever, who patiently and kindly helped me along in jamming with others.
Anyhow, welcome to the wonderful world of mandolins -- if you have half the fun that I'm having on this journey of learning to play mando, you'll have a blast! Best of luck to you.

Sorry for the typo.
I used to talk to some nice folks there several times a week. Work related.
I had to read both versions twice over to see the difference so I guess these Texans have developed a longterm strategy to deal with typos and those who make them...
I know what I am talking about, because people keep mistyping my last name (only 5 letters, that's what I call creative!)

Andy V,
If you don't mind me asking, what company in Nacogdoches, were talking with? It's not a big town and I've lived here for forty five years.
Back then they were JM Clipper. Now owned by Parker.
Mr. Henze,
I get it all the time, and I understand if someone hears the V as B, g as t, etc. but how can they hear extra letters?!!!
My dad had a shoe box with clippings from envelopes with his first and/or last name misspelled.
There's also a Natchitoches, Louisiana about 90 miles due east of Nacagdoches, pronounced differently despite seeming phonetically similar.
