Default Blondes have more fun? Not the fake ones.

    Hello All
Found this while looking around. Contacted the seller and let them know it isn’t a Gibson. Could get interesting.

Also reported it to Ebay. It will be interesting to see how long it stays up for sale.

Hmmm, coming from the banjo world, it's not unusual to see a Gibson decal on anything. Looks like the current description is accurate.

The tuners, bridge, tailpiece and case for this mandolin are probably worth the $239.99 buy-it-now price for someone looking for those items. The mandolin itself might even sound good, who knows?

$239 for a Gibson? He already knows. Purdy though.

The lister is dancing on the edge, but essentially his description is correct. He doesn’t claim it’s a Gibson. He just says it says Gibson on the headstock, and notes that it’s a decal, which Gibson never used. No deception here.

The listing also notes the country of origin is China. While it may not be full disclosure, I don’t think it’s deliberate deception.

Particularly interesting, given the country of origin, is the prominent display on an American flag. I don’t think he’s being deceptive just under educated.

AND (maybe it was changed in the past day or so?) the ad does specify "Brand: Unbranded". Adding that to the WAY up front "Gibson on headstock is a decal", I suspect that anyone paying the $240 for the "new and un-played" mandolin is getting a fair deal, w/ no (or hardly any?) deception intended.

Realistically, anyone expecting to re-sell this for big bucks as a "Gibson F-5" deserves to lose their $240!

Yes. Being undereducated in mandolin labels, features and origins is a good excuse, but a sense of beauty is something you are born with - or not.

No, but it’s not particularly bulbous either. It’s probably a pressed top. I set up one just like this (minus the Gibson decal) for a coworker recently. I can’t remember what brand it was, but it ended up making a good starter instrument once the bridge was fit and the action was adjusted. It had a good dry sound and decent volume.

(Not $200 better than a Rogue A-style though for that scroll.)

I think you're giving the seller WAY too much credit. He claims it's vintage and hand made.

I don't think they are worth anywhere near that.

Comparable product, not a blonde, with Gig bag for a hundred less.

Even closer product, not a blonde, no case for way less.

There are better deals out there on cheap F style mandolins.

And if you're looking to spend in the $240.00 range this is probably a better deal (NFI).

These were sold under different brands, Old Hickory being one.
