Got hit with a golf ball in the back of the head at full speed about a week ago and now my hearing is super sensitive.
The golfball was 90 degrees off the intended direction and hit me smack below and behind the right ear, didn't go down but was out of it for a few minutes, saw stars and was deaf for a while, like you're at the bottom of the swimming pool.
After a while, things kind of returned to normal, vision ok, hearing like a bucket over my
head and a tinnitus kind of noise in my ears.
Got home and my neighbor and friend who is a pathologist checked me and found nothing wrong except for my hearing,I happen to have my yearly medical next day and again nothing wrong except for my hearing that my doctor thought it was caused by is swollen eustachian tubes.
My daughter had a concussion playing lacrosse and had the same hearing problem, took 3 months for the hearing to normalize.
The net result is super sensitive hearing, if my mandolin is the very slightest out of tune, I hear it, spend a lot of time tuning these days, whished I had waverlies on my mando
It has improved my playing, especially fretting properly, the slightest amount my finger
not in the right place, I can hear it, when the pick doesnt hit the string properly, I hear it
all of this even in the fast passages.
I am NOT suggesting to get hit in the back of the head to improve playing.

When people ask me how I am doing, I fake a twitch in my face ,and say "fine, fine,
they look seriously puzzled.
