Default Got hit with a golfball in the back of the head, hearing sensitve

Got hit with a golf ball in the back of the head at full speed about a week ago and now my hearing is super sensitive.

The golfball was 90 degrees off the intended direction and hit me smack below and behind the right ear, didn't go down but was out of it for a few minutes, saw stars and was deaf for a while, like you're at the bottom of the swimming pool.

After a while, things kind of returned to normal, vision ok, hearing like a bucket over my
head and a tinnitus kind of noise in my ears.

Got home and my neighbor and friend who is a pathologist checked me and found nothing wrong except for my hearing,I happen to have my yearly medical next day and again nothing wrong except for my hearing that my doctor thought it was caused by is swollen eustachian tubes.

My daughter had a concussion playing lacrosse and had the same hearing problem, took 3 months for the hearing to normalize.

The net result is super sensitive hearing, if my mandolin is the very slightest out of tune, I hear it, spend a lot of time tuning these days, whished I had waverlies on my mando

It has improved my playing, especially fretting properly, the slightest amount my finger
not in the right place, I can hear it, when the pick doesnt hit the string properly, I hear it
all of this even in the fast passages.

I am NOT suggesting to get hit in the back of the head to improve playing.
    ,
When people ask me how I am doing, I fake a twitch in my face ,and say "fine, fine,
    they look seriously puzzled.

Been playing golf for over 45 years and never hit anybody, but I did manage to drive a ball through the side of an old Harley cart and break the carb.

Sorry for your injury and I hope you heal real soon.

Terribly sorry for your injury. I cannot imagine the pain, and the frustration.
FWIW. I strongly support the idea of Waverly tuners. I have them on my Collings. I was noticing last night how long the instrument stays in tune. Days. Very thankful for what was on this one when I bought it.

If you want to save some money, take a look at the Rubner tuners. I have them on my Yellowstone and keeps it in tune for a long time.

I noticed on their web site, they have no F models listed. When I bought my satin A models a few weeks ago, I heard they were retooling for them. Hopefully they will have them soon. Great product and a great price.

This could be an emergency mode function of the body, increasing sensory perception in a dangerous environment *. If so, it would subside after a while (i.e. months or years) when life seems safe again.

(*) a golf course seems to count as one. You're probably lucky the other player didn't throw his 8-iron at you as well...

Head injuries suck and I hope all returns to normal. For your tuning problems Waverlys aren't the answer, you are. There's a whole lot more than just tuners that make tuning a mandolin a challenge. Get well soon!

Wow, what a story. I agree, get the Waverly’s while you have a better reason than you might ever have again! Hope all returns to normal soon.
