    Default 2 damaged GoldTone mandocellos

I see on a certain online seller that a damaged product seller has 2 GoldTone Mandocellos that will be needing some repair. The top is cracked badly on one of them, the other less so. You might want to check them out, as they can be repaired by a competent and experienced luthier. If you happen to win them with a low bid, you could get them repaired and have a decent 'cello for a low price.

    Look for "cargolargo"....

I have exactly no experience with GT cellos, so take my comment with a block of salt. However, it seems to me that the general construction of these instruments is not equal to the task of withstanding all that pulling pressure exerted by the heavy courses. Tops collapsing, bridges and tailpieces bursting... Makes me nervous. Hope that these instruments can, with a competent luthier, be turned into players once again.

One of those just looks like it has lacquer checking and maybe a single tight crack. The other one's pretty badly whacked. It doesn't look like failure from string tension, it looks like the box was dropped.

I also noticed that the hardware is chrome, not gold as they were in the initial run.
