Thread: Dave Nichols still the absolute tops for inlay?

Default Dave Nichols still the absolute tops for inlay?

So I'm considering having a classic flowerpot inlaid into the headstock of my Northfield Artist mandolin. The mandolin is so impeccably crafted from such high quality materials, I don't want to do it unless I can find a shop that can match the quality of work so the instrument still looks cohesive after inlay. I would naturally have Northfield do the work, but they will not do ferns or flowerpots.

In my research so far, I get the impression that Dave Nichols and his team are the outfit if you want the best. Should I be considering others as well?

Thanks so much for y'all's thoughts on this.

Ellis, Precision pearl inlays may handle that type of work?

Check out the Ellis Torch and Wire inlay on the Ellis mandolin in the classified section. stunning. You might contact Northfield and see who the recommend.

Dave does great work. He did a flower pot for me a few years back on a banjo. He's a nice guy and if you're within driving range of seeing him it's a great place to visit.

There is a reason for that. Gibson used to sic their legal department on some folks who tried it. Not sure if they still do but you never know.
