Default Label Inside Mandolin---When Do You Attach It?

    Hi Mando Builders,
So it seems that many builders attach the label to the inside of the back through the F-hole after it is pretty much built vs attaching it to the back before the back is attached to the rim?

Curious as to why attaching it through the F-hole is preferred---seems like it would be harder to place it in the right position and more difficult all around.

    Thoughts?

    Andy

The labels are usually put in just before shipping, so they can write in the serial number. It really isn't that difficult to attach it through the f hole.

I apply labels to the back right before the back is glued to the rim to close the box.

Putting it in at the last minute isn't hard, and keeps the label clean while all the messy stuff is going on. As for serial numbers... I assign numbers as each one is started, not when they're finished... but that's purely because I usually take pictures as building progresses, and I store these on my hard drive by serial number... a very 21st century rationale That does mean they can sometime appear to the world out of sequence if there's a speculative build on the back burners.

Before the back is glued on to close the box. More room for my hands.

I put them in at the end with tweezers and the eraser end of a pencil to press them in place. Like Tavy said, you don't have to worry about keeping them clean that way.
