    Default Gibson A year?

I have a pumpkin top A, Serial # is 34767 and the stamp is 3455 (there is a drip mark right near the #, does this stamp seem right for the serial # time frame?)

Is there a difference in the serial # and stamp # for dating it as to the year made, or ship date?

Any info. would be interesting to know.

In Joe Spann's book that FON isn't listed but 3428 and 3458 are both listed as 1916 built instruments. Here's one with the same FON in the archive that is showing as a 1920 ship date. The serial is way after yours. The FON should be the build date, the serial will reflect the ship date.

Thanks Mike, for the info. So I double checked the FON to see if there was a number that was hiding behind some glue runs, but with a bright light it looks like it has just 4 digits and it is 3455.

If I am correct, that means it was built in 1916, but the serial # of 34767 could be a different ship date? Would you have the year of the ship date? Just curious how long it sat before being shipped, or if it went out the door the same year.

34767 is consistent with a 1916 ship date according to Spann.
