Nobody, I would leave the mountain in its natural state and ride my fat bike there with a mandolin slung over my shoulder and have a picnic and play old-time music once I get to the summit.

    Here’s a take nobody’s taken yet.

    Monroe, Grisman, Burns, Avital.

Reasoning: originated Bluegrass style, originated Newgrass style, pioneered multiple styles and popularized the instrument, and argueably the greatest Classical artist.

Plenty of runners up. Thile the genius, Hull the gender barrier breaker, and what about that guy who played the solo for Rod Stewart’s “Maggie May”? Who has ever played a more famous mandolin solo than that one?

Can't you think of some monument less abhorrent than Rushmore? Some consider it an abomination.

I think this is just another way of naming who you feel are the most influential players to you, the responder.

Agreed Jamie.....please allow me to assist in getting this back on track:

Bill Monroe, David Grisman, Sammy Bush, and Dempsey Young receive my votes.

And ... for the Bluegrass "Rushmore" I'd have five busts: Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, Ralph & Carter Stanley

MT Rushmore has four presidents: Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and T Roosevelt.

    It becomes tough

I wonder should two of them be Orville Gibson and Lloyd Loar... it's not easy, is it?

Monroe goes on the mountain, the rest go on the foothills.

When we drove across the country to move to Oregon 26 yrs ago, we stopped at Mt. Rushmore along the way. It amazed me t hat there were people actually taking VIDEO of it (I guess trying to catch one of them winking).
