Purcell: The Golden Sonata (Z. 810)
Henry Purcell (1659-95): The Golden Sonata (Sonata No. 9 in F Major, Z. 810)
1. Largo - 0:00
2. Adagio - 1:50
These are the opening two movements of Purcell's "Golden Sonata". This trio sonata is the most famous of his "10 Sonatas in Four Parts", published posthumously in 1697, but written in the 1680s. Purcell's original setting was for two violins, bass viol and continuo. My mandolin adaptation is based on an arrangement for string quintet (three violins, viola, cello) by Mike Magatagan:

Played on three mandolins, octave mandolin and mandocello. This transfers nicely to mandolin, with good contrast between the busy first movement (marked "Largo", but usually played faster) and the calm second movement. Nice cello part!
1890s Umberto Ceccherini mandolin (x2)
Mid-Missouri M-0W mandolin
Mid-Missouri M-111 octave mandolin
Suzuki MC-815 mandocello
