    Default One that got away

A vintage early 1930s National electric in excellent shape, with HSC, for $125 in Duluth because the owner thought it was a Kay.

I hate when people don't take down their ads after they sell.

I wonder what the seller thought that big white 'N' on the pickguard meant?

Judging from the black and white stripes, and the fact that the 'N' turns in to a 'Z' when you are in the playing position . . . I guess it must have been a Zebra mandolin . . . .

Duluth was/is known as the Zenith city. Seller probably thought it was a Zenith model.

It wasn't me Martin. I believe that's actually a picture of the old National that I bought from that elderly gentleman a few years ago. It looks identical. I think I sold or traded it to you. The seller was quite old- at least in his 80's- and I think he put the wrong picture up. Probably confused, and certainly not an attempt at deception. Are you sure it's gone? It's still on Craigslist. I was going to call him today, not that I need another mandolin.

    Ha ha ha ha HA!

Taking a peek at *my* '34-ish National that was indeed traded to me by Chief, who lives in Duluth. Red-lined case with hinge cover still intact: check. Most of case handle's cover missing: check. Pickguard intact: check. One original and one replaced knob: check!

I guess it didn't get away after all.

But to answer your question, whatever he was trying to sell with that ad (perhaps it really was a Kay) is now gone according to an email I got from the seller.
