Nice!
But jiminy … could they try & be a little more subtle with the pricing?
"$3999.99 - why, that means it's less than $4000!!!!! PLEASE, take my money!"
I wonder who it was originally made for. An SE line of PRS mandolins would be interesting.
I've never played one. What is the overall impression of PRS mandolins amongst the mandolin community?
Gee, an overpriced PRS - who knew such a thing was possible . . . .
I watched this interesting Ted Talk by PRS recently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNzJjlV1TOA
I don't know anything about making instruments, but after watching that, I would be really interested in owning a mandolin designed by him. I particularly liked the part where he was comparing materials used for nuts.
I have known about these for a long time. But this is only the second or possibly the third time I've seen one for sale. Pretty sure a Japanese dealer had one listed on eBay a while back for about twice the Guitar Center price.

I wasn't able to find any videos of one youtube. They must be like unicorn earwax.
"Here's your $3,999.99 whiskey sour. Ya know, we don't serve many kangaroos at this bar."
"And at these prices, you're not likely to!"

Every year at NAMM I cruise through the PRS booth just to see if they have one of these displayed. In 3 decades, I think I've only seen two of them.
Yes, it is indeed the one I acquired in Japan. It was an emotional purchase and it is a beauty of an instrument - so purdy!!! However, beyond the first position, it was just not what I hoped for. To be blunt, the fingerboard is made for a child's hands and projection was not close to what I would have expected (yes, it sounds fine with the piezo but precision on that fingerboard is very hard to achieve). I'm a GAS addict and when you have that condition, ya find some true beauties and some that are just a pretty face.
If I had a spare 3,999 dollars of mad money to spend on mandolins, I can think of SO many better ways to spend it.

I have small hands so I could probably play it, but WAY too rich for my blood!
