Default Mandola, BACH & Daniel Estrem

I have become aware of two CD's which I've acquired and enjoying very much.

First, I'm relatively knew to the world of classical mandolin or mandola. So my ignorance could easily become apparent.

I was looking for some mandola music when I stumbled on two CD's by Daniel Estrem, "Daniel Estrem: JS Bach on Solo Mandola". I learned from reading about them that he had reduced the strings to one string and not doubles to facilitate finger picking. (I hope I have all this correct).

I have not ran across this before, single stringds and finger picking, etc. I just wanted to share. thanks, J.C. Bryant

He is a classical guitarist. Aside from his actual mandola album, all the youtube videos he has are played on a tenor uke tuned to mandolin tuning. Nicely done.

That is very nice. I wonder what kind of mandola he plays. I can't imagine finger-picking steel strings on any of mine, as the sound I get is way too thin for the sore fingers I'd quickly get in return, even with only single strings. (Besides, that is what the ukulele is for. LOL)

I think he is actually, as demonstrated above, playing a ukulele tuned to CGDA like a mandola. To my untrained ears, the video above sounds just like the mandola CD. I don't know but it is beautiful music.
