    Default A renaissance mandore

A renaissance Mandore I just finished building. It's an ancestor of the mandolin played much like the ukulele (or mandolin for that matter) is today. Scale length of 35cm. All cherry wood, apart from the spruce soundboard, ash fingerboard and boxwood pegs.

    Hi Dusepo,

Looks great. Thanks for posting the pictures. What tuning is it set up for?

    Best wishes,

It's currently tuned gcead. Of course with different strings it can be tuned however you wish.

Do you find that the ash resists staining well as a fingerboard? I have some in the basement, hadn't considered it for that purpose.

    Lovely work!

I've never had any problems with Ash fingerboards becoming stained, but I don't often use it. It's certainly tough enough though.
