Default Tony Williamson honored on 50th anniversary of recording career

Tony Williamson is collecting a North Carolina Heritage Award as he marks the 50th anniversary of his recording career.

He discussed the honor and played some tunes Friday on WUNC radio.

I have been out to visit Tony on his place in Siler City NC on a few occasions and he is a wonderful person as well as a great picker. Glad to see him get the North Carolina Heritage Award. I think his brother, Gary, should get one too. They are a vanishing example of mandolin-guitar brother harmony, the real deal.

    Congratulations Tony!

I was thrilled to be in attendance for my old friend Tony's richly deserved Heritage Award Wednesday in Raleigh. It was a great evening and Tony and band (including Noam Pikelny and Tony's brother Gary) ended the show with a great set. Start the video at 2:22 with a nice testimonial from Chris Thiele and enjoy the music that follows.
