Default My mandolin story, New member!

First I would like to say thanks for this site and thanks to this wonderful community. Without it, I know I wouldn’t be this far along.
My father had a bluegrass band and a gospel band. I was about 6 or 7 when he came in one day with what he called a “potbelly” mandolin. I instantly fell in love with the way it sounded. But apparently he didn’t like it. I remember seeing him holding it and talking on the phone. He was selling it! I remember pulling on his pants leg and screaming don’t sell it, I want to learn how to play it. I then heard him tell whoever was on the other end “ Nevermind it’s not for sell” Sadly he never got the chance to teach me, he was shortly diagnosed with cancer and passed away rather quickly.
I grew up got married, had kids, career the whole bit. On my 45 Birthday, my mother in her advanced age, said I have you a present, It was
That “potbelly” mandolin. She had put it up all those years ago. I went home put it on the wall.
Two years go by and this passed Christmas my son got me a new mandolin. I figured well now I really have to start learning, so I found this site, read a bunch became addicted,
and already bought my third mandolin—Kentucky KM 606 love the way it looks and sounds. I can’t thank you guys and gals enough for all the insight and wisdom I have learned!

I was a long time "lurker" before I joined, and have but a wee fraction of the knowledge of most members so, like you, I am sooo happy to be accepted here. It is an amazing community, Welcome!

You've gotten insight and wisdom? All I've gotten is MAS and feelings of musical inferiority.

Oh well, good for you and welcome.
