Eastman and Kentucky both offer gold tops. Anyone got a meaningful sense of how these instruments compare with each other? Is there a clearly better option between the two?

For my 2-cents; all I can say is that I owned one of the Eastman gold tops for a while. The instrument played great, but the mahogany body gave it a tone that I personally did not care for at all. I recently happened to speak with one of the Cafe sponsors who is an Eastman dealer and he told me that he also did not think that the Eastman mahogany body worked well either.
Again, just one man's opinion . . . well, maybe two men . . .
Good luck.
I have an Eastman gold top. It's a 415 so I wasn't expecting a huge sound out of it, but for what it is, I think it sounds surprisingly good. Plus the gold top is cool. Haven't seen the Kentucky.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention - the Cafe sponsor mentioned above told me that the Kentucky gold top was a good instrument, but he no longer carried it because the color was not popular with his customers . . . which strikes me funny because I actually like the gold top color. Go figure.
Thanks all. I have gone in a different direction. More later on NMD, some time late next week.
