    Hysterical. For posterity:

Dixson Mandolin. Made by a man named dixson who worked for Gibson made the hummingbird design but received no credit. He ended up leaving and making his own company named Dixson ge made the hummingbird guitar and Gibson styled mandolins out of better materials so they are better quality than Gibson. But Gibsom sued and won so Dixson had to stop production. Gibson then bought any dixson they could get their hands on trying to erase them from history. Here's a survivor
I believe he also made pencils and had a business relationship with a man named Mason who also made jars.

And for anyone doing research, here is every thread with the word Dixon in it on the Cafe. If you're reading this 20 years from now please don't believe a word of the text from the auction in the OP.

No, that was Mr. Dixon. This mandolin was made by Mr. Dixson - note the "s" that appears in the ad text numerous times, and of course since the info is on eBay, it must be accurate.

The misspelled peghead logo "Dixon", resulted from Mr. Dixson ordering a batch of 600000 peghead decals (better price when ordered in large numbers), but unfortunately the fellow who took his order had a really bad hangover from partying too much the night before and he wasn't really paying attention all that well and he misspelled Mr. Dixson's name without the "s".

When Mr. Dixson opened up the shipping crate containing the 600000 decals, of course he immediately noticed the spelling error, but being a frugal sort he thought he'd go ahead and use them up anyway. He said, "Well, you know, Dixon is actually a more common spelling anyway, so we'll just go with that. Probably no one will notice the difference anyway."

    1. How/where on earth did the seller come up with that story?

    2. That Dixon scroll looks like it was once a normal scroll, but then it melted. (The Kona 'scroll' looks more like a carry handle.)

    3. Why on earth are people bidding on this mandolin? (Stupid question, I know . . . uneducated mandolin players believe this story.) 22 bids already, over $260.00, $43 to ship it, and the nut needs to be replaced. Please tell me this is just a bad dream!

Well, they were along the same line.
The other guy hit the Ball though.
They did all drink from the same jar though
Better tread “Kerrfully” on those stories.

Another entertaining thread that I'll never be able to find again... unless someday I'm looking for advice on carving plywood.

No wonder Gibson went bankrupt, buying up all those Dixons.

BTW my name is Dixon, but not THAT Dixon. Please do not contact me for further information.

He did consider asking the borrow of Mr Bill's penknife, but that would have meant rambling through dark hollows & down lonesome highways ...
