Thread: Learning material for chord melody...

  1. #1

Default Learning material for chord melody...

I've been searching the internet for resources for learning tenor guitar. I've found the Mel Bay books which look decent. I also ran into this https://urresearch.rochester.edu/fil...mFileId=182590

Does anyone have experience with the McNeil Chord System? Is this worth exploring or are there better materials available?

    Thanks in advance.

When I was taking tenor banjo lessons a few years ago, my instructor, thought that Harry Reser had the best tenor instruction books hands down.

I have a copy of this one and it is very good over all. Not strictly chord melody but there is some in the last part of the book.

You might want to inquire over at the banjo hangout site, lots of four string players over there.

I quite like the attached text from Frank Geiger, though I'd rather look at harmony learning by starting with each note as its own root in the scale then all thirds, major or minor for each note, then all fifths together. That way the harmony feels to me more centred on the melody, and less of a sort of random half counterpoint sort of thing. I think. Maybe.

He has also written an e-book with 10 standards arranged in chord melody style:

I'm trying to learn how to arrange tunes in chord melody style myself, but every now and then, I relax and just play an arrangement made by Jack Ray:
