I have recently bought a mandolin with the maker name of G. Omobono of Napoli. Has anyone any background information about the maker? When was he producing instruments? Dates.
I have found 2 advertisements for mandolins for sale produced by G. Omobono in South Wales in the late 19th c. The mandolin has some minor damage but looks as if it could be repaired.
Thanks
Can you provide some images of your mandolin, the label and perhaps the advertisements? They might help in response to your question, or at least provide some material for posteriority here.
I have pictures from a couple Omobono mandolins in my files--of distinctly different styles. Does this label match the one in yours?
My hunch is the G.O. was a dealer in mandolins (as many were in Napoli at the time) rather than a maker.
