Looks like a sawed off shotgun with strings to me. Is it a guitar? Lute? Mandolin?

Either a 12 string Mandolin or Mandriola, as a 12-string mandolin I have heard it is strung with triple courses (3-3-3-3) and still tuned G, D, A, E. The extra strings give a fuller sound and makes it somewhat easier for tremolo picking. I think as a mandriola the tuning is different. But I somehow always had the impression they had a longer neck so maybe I am wrong.
There are 6 courses of 2 strings. I just can't see playing The House of the Rising Sun on this thing.

Looks like a bandurria
"The modern bandurria has 12 strings (6 pairs). The strings are tuned in unison pairs, going up in fourths from the low G#. The lowest four strings are a major-third above those of a standard guitar and the highest two strings are a fourth above a standard guitar, i.e. G♯, c♯, f♯, b, e and a"
I think thats it. (bandurria). Sure looks like it. Maybe I need one.

Yes, that is a bandurria. They come from Spain. I have one hanging on the wall of my workshop that was given to me by a Spanish friend.
