    Default Stuck On Arm Rest

Any of you ever seen one of these?

    (See attachment)

It's an arm rest, yet stuck on the mandolin. It doesn't have those clamps, probably because its a guitar bodied octave, and clamps weren't big enough.

What's it stuck on with? Is it easy to get off and put back on? Is it going to ruin the finish if I take it off?

    (Hopefully the attachment worked.)

(I feel like for this being my 600th post I should've had something better.)

That is a John Pearse guitar arm rest. It sticks on with a double sides adhesive similar to that used for acoustic pickguards. I should think removal procedure would be similar to that used for pickguard removal. I would take it to a luthier who knows what he is doing. Application of heat, like a heat lamp, would soften the adhesive and very careful prying with some kind of knife with a dull but thin blade would do it. No, there is absolutely no guarantee there won’t be some kind of left over damage to the finish, and the removal procedure is risky. That’s why I suggest a good luthier. It shouldn’t cost much but getting someone experienced to do it would be priceless.

Just looked it up on the John Pearse website. They state that it is “designed to be a permanent addition to a guitar. Removal should only be done by a competent repair person”.
