    Default Gilchrist- neck profiles

Hello...Anyone out there with experience playing different Gils(F5s) through the years? I am curious about neck profiles...would you say most Gils have heftier and more beefy necks? I have played a couple recently that were 10-12 years old and neck profiles were similar to a Collings...which is just too big for me...any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I've owned and played many of Steve's instruments from different eras and I can't say there is a true consistency to his mandolin necks. I believe many of these mandolins were custom ordered and especially during the Grisman/Johnson years of the 1980's-1990's. When it comes to necks what's one persons "meat" is another persons "small potatoes"...
