My apologies to those who have seen this video but I’ve watched it 6 times in the last two days and can’t get enough. The combination of instruments is just awesome.

Fylde Touchstone Walnut Mandolin.
Gibson Alrite Model D.
Sierra is my favorite 'contemporary' mandolinist - and even though I am honestly not a huge fan of this trio, I do GREATLY admire her for stretching and growing as an artist. Kudos!
Favorite tune,
Favorite mandolinist,
Great creative meld.
Just where else would a monroe ditty have a sax?
Hadnt seen the clip, thanks!
Was that a regular mandolin? She must be like four feet tall.
Seriously though, that was awesome. I'm going to have to check some more of her work out.

They way they segue so seamlessly into each interpretation is pretty marvelous.

Love the instrument combination.
I'm especially interested in the bass since I'm working on that instrument now. Playing arco (bowed) is great with this piece, and notice the C-extension; I can't tell if it's in use.
This is a very familiar song for Sierra, doing it on the OM with arco bass and with the alto sax keeps everything in that lower octave (although capoed up 2 on the OM) and probably breathes fresh air into the song. Really well done!
Thanks for posting!

Wonderful performance. It would be nice to credit the other two musicians, though. I posted the comment on the YT video.

I believe that the bass player is her husband. I'm sure he gets some credit somewhere.
Edit: Not correct and no credits found yet, see below...

Fun stuff! Around 2:45 the sax player gets a little into Yakety Sax, for a second, aka "The Benny Hill Theme.......
It is wonderful. I really like how they captured a bit of the feeling of a didgeridoo in the rhythm. Really kind of haunting.
The bass player is Ethan Jodziewicz. Sierra and Ethan recorded her album "Weighted Mind".
Having played alto sax (poorly) for several years way back in the dark ages and then never again, I may be revealing my woeful lack of saxiness ... but I think this is the first time I have heard the alto sax played as a rhythm instrument.
I enjoyed the video. Thanks for posting it.

I found the answer to my question on Sierra's site. Info for the Paste sessions:
In advance of her NYC concert, Sierra stopped by the Paste Studio in Manhattan for a Q& A + Live performance. She was joined by Ethan Jodziewicz & Eddie Barbash.

I've/w've (my wife and I) have seen her twice, up close and personable, small venues, and I love the way her mandolins look like guitars in her small statue person, but man can she go. love her with big crushes.

I got scared when I saw the saxophone, but it fits nicely. Thanks for posting-
THAT is music!
Love everything about this but I have question, is that a capo on that mandolin?
