Default Paul Shippey "Axe" mandolin and bouzouki

I've just finished building my latest "Axe" bouzouki and Jon Doran came to my workshop to collect it this week. Along with Janice Burns on mandolin, they played some lovely tunes and songs.....here's the first (thanks to Rob Rowles who did the filming and editing):

Very nice sounding and looking instruments, Paul. Lovely playing, too.

Hi Paul - I've had the great pleasure of playing 2 of your mandolins belonging to a friend of mine, & they were superb in every way, both the build quality & the tone,

It was a real pleasure to film this and see such awesome talent playing.
I have the same zouk model as Jon in the video - the flat top carved back thing works so so well. So playable and so splendidly powerful and loud.
The mandolin here is the same principle and proved to me that a mandolin doesn't absolutely need a carved top (though I do love it that way). The instrument is really gorgeous tone wise and I'd say also a great stage mandolin. If only I wasn't waiting for Paul to finish my octave mandolin for me.....

Here's another video from last week when Jon Doran collected his "Axe" Bouzouki from my workshop.
Jon is singing "Mary and the Soldier" , which many will know from Paul Brady's arrangement.

Second that. At least as good as the classic rendition by Paul Brady, if not better.

Here's the third video that we made of Janice Burns and Jon Doran at my workshop. Janice is singing "The Fish Gutters song" by Ewan MacColl.

I was telling Janice that my flat has a connection with Ewan MacColl - his mate (my landlord's dad) used to live in it (they were in turn mates with LS lowry!!). Apparently Peggy Seeger came round to interview my landlady about her father in law (he'd passed by then). I must see if anything of the interview got into print. One of my favourite claims to fame!
