    Default fatt-dad meets journeybear!

. . . and now I know why folks live in Key West! What a fun place!

JB's band was a hoot! Sure, he can play! So can the rest of them! Such fun music in an open-air fish-wagon shack!

Meanwhile, the weather's perfect! HaHa, it was cold back home too!

When I had my winter home in Florida I always meant to go down to Key West to meet J.B. but my wife just didn`t want to ride with me along that "narrow" road to get there going from one key to another...It seems that just about every year I would plan to go down there but never did get around to it and now that I have sold the Florida house it don`t look like I will make it EVER...JB was always interesting to talk to via e mails etc and I know it is my loss...

Glad you had a great time...

How cool, Fatt-Dad and Journey Bear! This is inspiring, as Mike said, to see these meet ups. My wife and I were fortunate to have the opportunity to meet Nick ("DataNick"), who performed with his band near my home. It was the first time I had met an individual from the Cafe in person. What a great show BK Nicholson and Desperado put on!

Very cool! Not quite the same but I had the good fortune to run into David Surette at a Traveling McCourys show in Cambridge, MA last week. It was pretty cool to see David getting to appreciate a show rather than being on the stage.

Also, The TM’s were just awesome. Ronnie is about as tasteful of a pro player I’ve ever heard. What a band too with Cody Kilby on guitar. A great night for sure.

Bo's Fishwagon. Must be the north end of Duval and to the right a few blocks. There are boats a few blocks away, but the place is not in the strip. Just a kind of funky shack! Few nights after we saw J.B.'s band play, we were walking past the joint and it seemed like some dixieland band. Lots of open-air places with guitars, bands, singers, etc playing music - at least where we were.

My wife and I got to meet Journeybear last time we were down there. When we made plans to meet I told him "I'll be the one wearing a Mandolin Cafe hat" his reply "no, I'll be the one wearing a Mandolin Cafe Hat!" I did not have a chance to pick with him but enjoyed his band very much.

When my wife and I moved to St. Augustine last year I met up with Cafe member Tommy Sanderson. We try to get together once a week and work on fiddle tunes. Lots of fun.

I invited one of the more popular fellow on the Café to come to my house when he said he was visiting Maryland for a wedding, he asked if I owned a Loar and when I told him no he said he couldn`t make it, GO FIGURE...Should I have lied to him since I do own a copy of a Loar?...I have met with two others from the Café but we don`t get to see each other that much, I guess my playing is either too good or too bad for them to want to pick some with me....
