Rare as hen’s teeth, but TME just posted a used Apititus F5, which is on consignment.

That same Apitius was on consignment for a couple months at Elderly and never sold. I wonder why, the $6k price tag seems like a relative bargain. That piece kept me up a few nights and I sure hope someone grabs it before I’m in TME again. Thank goodness I’m on the road next week...

You know the number and quality of mandolins that have been through my hands over the years and the one that has stayed for 10 years now is a Heiden A5. I learned a LOT from owning all those mandolins but my keeper was already here. Throw in a Kimble F5 to cover scroll envy and MAS has been cured for me. Except for a nice oval hole.....

    Hi Demetrius,

Mike Black is making beautiful A's and offers a Verzi (which I believe you want) as an option. His prices are extremely reasonable. Have you checked out his mandolins? Perhaps the one you are looking for is actually a lot less expensive than you might think.

    Best wishes,

I finally got to buy a Dudenbostel (no, not an armrest or a string winder), I won an Ebay auction a while back for an F-5 top made by Lynn. Evidently it didn't meet Lynn's standards and the original buyer decided to part with it. I would suspect it's cnc'd but not positive. I'm using it for an F-4 hybrid.

There are a lot of mandolin sales that take without any advertisements. I have bought a lot of instruments through private transactions , and others before they made it to websites shop websites, so there may be Dudes or Gils or other mandolins that people would sell out there that we don't see on-line. In fact, someone mentioned here on the board that they bought a Heiden A not too long ago from someone who saw a posting stating in passing that they would like to buy one.

In the Dude price range, there are many others out there, but man if I wanted a Dude as your first choice, I would get Lynn to build one to my specs and wait. Buy something else to tide you over the long wait. It will be worth it.

    Okay, I see (literally).

One mandolin that you had for sale was that Givens A5 or A6. My main mando is a 1979 Givens A5 and I would love to pick up another A model of his. The only problem is money, of course.

Yes that Givens was one of the best mandolins I've ever played. So of course what do I do? I just sell it...

Miller mandolins, I've only seen F5s, are the current soup du jour amongst many of the NoCal pickers. I've played 2, and they were both outstanding; I would classify them as eerily similar to the Newson I played a couple of weeks ago, which to me was like a "good" MM Gibson...YMMV

Stan has made a few A's including one for Jody Stecher. They had an A5 at TME a few years back. It sold the minute it hit the website.
