Which would sound better: redwood over walnut in an A5 style, or the same combination in an A4 style? Why?
Thanks.

Do you prefer the warmth and sustain of the oval hole sound or the brightness and percussiveness of the f-hole sound?
Whichever you prefer, I would suspect that a mandolin built out of redwood and walnut would tend to have a darker tone and more bass than a similar mandolin built out of maple and spruce.
To be honest, I love them both. This makes it hard to choose.

Walnut is one of the most resonant woods if youre just tapping them. They make great instruments as well. I have a barn full of slabs thats been drying over 30 years.
