    Default Route 66

Suggestions please. A friend has sent me a recording of him playing Route 66. Blues version not the jazz version.
He is kind of playing a riff and chords. He wants me to put a mandolin on it. Any ideas about what I could do, please? I have tried just doing the chords without any open strings but it doesn't sound very inspired. He is playing in the key of A?

Blues playing is an art in itself. Check out the thread "Blues Mando Recommendations" on the forum, "Jazz, Swing, Blues, Bossa, Choro, Klezmer, Ragtime." Listen to some of the recordings listed, and you may get some ideas. Depending on your skill level, you may have to order the recommended books and DVD's, though there are a few free blues mandolin lessons of varying quality on YouTube. Not a quick solution, I'm afraid.
    All the best.

"I never did have no trouble with him until he got big enough to be round with bigger boys and off from home. Then he used to follow all these harp blowers, mandoleen (sic) and guitar players."

You can try a minor pentatonic scale, but you can also play in C as long as you resolve on an A note.

Thanks for your replies. I am a fairly competent player. I was thinking more in terms of chordal work behind his riffs.

This is going to be the best version featuring mandolin that I could find. Don Stiernberg is a master of Jazz mandolin and is very creative. He takes a break at 2:22 but is back up chops are worth close attention.

A bunch of stuff with four strings
