Thread: Same pitch on the 12,13,14 Fret.

Default Same pitch on the 12,13,14 Fret.

Got some Funk going on a new built Irish Bouzouki, between the 12,13,14 fret on the D,A,E strings have the same pitch, G string is perfect, the Zouk has good tone and resonance.
Ideas of what could be causing this funk?

This Zouk is my second one I've made, first one sounds and plays fine, only difference is the Neck is hard Maple and is finer/thinner, Neck block is soft maple for weight savings and ease to cut a V in for the neck V tenon. Sound board has H bracing, the same as my previous zouk.

Frets not properly leveled, in all likelihood. Of maybe the fingerboard is not flat.

What pitches are you getting on those strings? Can we guess e, b, and f#? (That is, the normal 14th fret notes.)

Or do you mean the same pitch on all three strings?

Sounds like a high fret to me. Did you level, crown, and dress the frets? Could be one of the fret ends has popped out of the slot. That can be hard to see. Use a piece of wooden dowel to push on the fret ends to see if it moves. If it is up on the treble side but not the bass that explains it. You can protect the fret board with some paste wax, wick some water thin super glue into the fret slot, and hold the loose end down with the dowel for a couple of minutes. If that’s what it is, that should take care of it.

YUP! The 14th fret was high, soft hammer JOB did the trick.

BTW those string courses look very spread out to me. At the nut it almost looks like you have 8 evenly spaced strings.
