Default My first NMD & Folk Musician

Would like to thank everyone for the advise last week regarding the purchase of my first mandolin. I contacted Robert Fear at Folk Musician and purchased a Loar LM500VS from him and received it today.
I am Very Happy with it. Not a high end I guess but for the price to me it looks like a really nice instrument. I would say the finish and workmanship are very good, scroll is clean as is the binding all around and a nice flame on the back. Set up with my limited knowledge seems to be real good and I am anxious to get started on my lessons.
Robert is very responsive and ships FAST! Very satisfied with this as my first experience with mandolins.....
Now if I can do it justice and learn to play, man this neck is tiny!!

Congratulations and happy pickin to you!

Remember... it's more like a fretted fiddle than a tiny guitar. If the neck were bigger it would be harder to play.

Thanks guys. just learned my first open chords and G maj scales both open and closed, after about an hour it didn't feel quite as foreign to me, at least I am getting some clear notes out of it. Lots of fun!

Nothing wrong with a Loar 500VS. I've had one and it was a good instrument.

NMD is always fun, but first NMD is the key that opens the door to future NMD's (a/k/a MAS). In any event, play, learn, enjoy and keep us posted!

Also, it's nice to see all of these positive comments about Folk Musician - I have been seriously considering buying from them in the not-too-distant future.

The main thing is you have a well set up mandolin. Now get a metronome and concentrate on clean and smooth. Don't worry about fast. That will come in time. So will the four string G.
