    Default F5 Loar in Classifieds

I've never been much of a BG guy and spend most of my time these days on an oval-hole A or on bowlbacks. I haven't owned an F-hole mandolin (but for my EM150) in a long time.

That said, I find this to be one sublimely beautiful instrument.

I know mio fratello, David, likes to play the Scaramouche here and remind us all that a bowlback was the ur-mandolin. That might be Right Said Fred and on any other day I'd be there with him, but today on a dour Monday, this F5 looks like everything a mandolin should ever be.

Loar aficionados might quibble about this one's particulars but for me on a cold gray afternoon this was a welcome revelation.

    Mick,
I saw that too and had the same reaction. (For me the Brentrup V-8 is the ultimate expression of F-5dom.) The shading on this F-5 is just perfect though. Maybe it is the weather ... we've got another big snow storm headed our way.

An unusually fine mandolin indeed....even the tailpiece is straight. The thing looks so good it won't matter if it sounds mediocre. i think you ought to get it, Mick.

Thanks, Dan. I'm shaking the short change from my old fruit jar right now.

Yep, that’s what makes F-5’s the icon they have become. All the shapes and lines are fair and visually appealing!
But, I thought someone was selling Tom when I read the heading!

Yes, beautiful! But some credit has to go to expert Carters photographer. Take a cellphone in a darkish room with fluorescent bulbs and maybe a bucket less drool.

You've just described by basic photographic method.

$150K? That would be a bargain and then some. You couldn't get him that cheaply.....
