    Default L&H Style A symmetric

A good friend of mine has been lusting for a Lyon and Healy SYMMETRIC Style A for a number of years, and is finally in a position where he can pull the trigger. He is ONLY interested in the symmetric model (with the regular scale length), not the shorter scale asymmetric. If anyone knows of one for sale, please let me know so that I can pass the info along to my friend.

    Thanks,
    Matt (SF Bay Area)

Well, my friend was finally able to score, and brought it to Aurora rehearsal last night. Now, he's asking for probable date.
It's a symmetrical (which I believe dates it pre-20s?), with the telescoping vest-rest. Inside label is Lyon & Healy A Special, No. 102. I don't have access to the Hubert book. Could anyone help date this for him?

The symmetric Style A mandolins were introduced in 1917, so no.102 within a year or or so. I have seen no.977 which the owner dated 1919.

    Cheers
