Default New Celtic music podcast: "Music at the Crossroads"

    Hi all,

I started a new Celtic music (mostly Irish) podcast last month. I do a live show on Dublin South FM every Tuesday evening at 6pm GMT. The podcasts go up on MixCloud a day or two after.

Rather than this just being shameless self-promotion I'd like to offer you all the opportunity to get involved with the show. Maybe you have ideas I can put forward for discussion, music suggestions or events in the Dublin area (perhaps I can expand this for international listeners too).

Here is a link to my MixCloud profile. Would love to hear feedback from you on what you like and, more importantly, what you dislike!

    Thanks!

Hey Patrick - this sounds wonderful. I will be checking in for sure - does your Dublin South show mainly consist of Irish music?

I'm not sure I have much I can think of for discussion although some ideas might come to me. I'm quite interested in how Irish music has changed around the world compared to how it has evolved within Ireland, but that's quite a broad topic!

Hi Seamus, yes it's almost all irish material though I may include Scottish and Cape Breton stuff too. Thanks for checking it out!

Howya Patrick - I've been listening to the show since you started it and it's the business, great stuff! Just purchased "Across the Pond" yesterday after hearing the opening tunes of your most recent show. Really enjoy hearing the background info provided by yourself regarding the tunes/songs played.

Re: ideas for shows it might be good craic to do a show where you pair an old and new track from a particular musician to hear a "then and now" comparison of how their style has developed.

Keep up the good work sir, the show is gift - look forward to it every week so I do!

Excellent idea Jill. Keep your ears peeled ;-)

And I'm thrilled to hear you're enjoying the show. Knowing that there's appreciative listeners makes it so worth it and makes me strive to provide a better and better show each week. If any friends might enjoy it live or on the podcast feel free to tell them to get involved.

I looked for this on my iTunes podcast app and had no luck. Are you on iTunes?

    Patrick,

It would be really interesting to pick a single tune or song and see how it's been reinterpreted over the years, particularly if it's one where the melody or arrangement has evolved with fashion.

Ok, I’ll have to look into that. I like the iTunes podcast app because I can download them and play them while I drive or work, where good cell service isn’t always possible.
