Thread: G.S. Monroe instruments

Anyone have experience playing them? I only found one mention of him on the Cafe (actually a thread he made himself), although I may have missed some given the difficulty of searching Monroe on the Cafe. I went to grad school in Tampa and spent a lot of time in the cypress swamps so one of his cypresswood instruments from the general Tampa area would have an added layer of meaning for me. The feedback I've seen on his work has all been positive, but just wanted to hear any other opinions. His site is https://gsmonroe.com/ if you're curious.

There are four or five here. The problem with a search is that his last name is pervasive on the Cafe
"It's comparable to playing a cheese slicer."

"Bargain instruments are no bargains if you can't play them"

Yep it is troublesome. It seems like the cypress he uses (not to be confused with European cypresses in flamenco guitars) is not often discussed either, with a mixed bag of results. They're definitely interesting as far as the folk art category goes, I'm curious how they handle over time as playing instruments.
