Twin Internal or Twin Fusion?

I'm getting a K&K pickup for my A5 f-hole Red Line mando. I have K&Ks in a folk guitar and a squareneck and like them, so I'm already sure that's the brand I'll go with.

I don't want to ream out my mando's endpin hole, so I'll either get the Twin Fusion or the Twin Internal with a Tapastring jack. (Tapastrings go for about $80.)

But which? Relative merits? Pros and cons? Am I crazy to care about reaming out the endpin hole?

Charlie I didn't ream my endpin either and went with a Tapastring jack. I think the only difference is one comes with a carpenter jack and the other with an endpin. The pickups themselves are the same. I like having it in and not having to attach it every time I want to use it.

Found that I can order the Internal with Tapastring endpin plug complete from K&K. And I found a jack adapter at the local guit shop for about $2.50.

So that's what I'm doing.

Charlie, I have a jack adapter to carry for an emergency, but I have two cords with the mini right angle plug on one end and 1/4" on the other. The adapter sticks out quite a ways and I prefer the special cord. I carry a spare in case something happens, but that way there is hardly anything sticking out to be hit, bumped or put pressure on the endpin.

Yup, Tapastring sells a cable, but I figured I'd save a few bucks in the short run by starting with an adapter. I bought two so it'll take me twice as long to lose them.

I buy the 1/8" right angle plug and buy two then cut a cord in half and make two of my own. I like saving the bucks too.

I had a lot of noise with the external K&K with the carpenter jack in my first mando. Just brushing the wires or jack with my hand or sleeve made noise. I switched to an internal jack and had no problems since. About 20 pickup installations later (all JJB) I always use the internal jack.

Good to know. Makes sense. As I said, I'm getting the internal one.
