Bowl back fun
I have a nice quality bowlback made in East Germany in 1950 by Willi Hums. When it arrived in the mail several years ago, the tuners were falling apart and required replacement. Finding suitable slot head tuners was not easy, but I found a set of Rubners (only listed in Australia) that fit the bill. They weren't quite a perfect fit. I kind of crammed them in and screwed them down, but naturally they don't work very well. They bind.
I've decided to take another crack at it. So - glue dowels in the old holes and redrill? It's kind of a pain with a bowl back with a slotted headstock, but I don't know what else to do. I guess I could try to buy more tuners that fit better.
