    Default Citizen Kane

I just noticed something in the final scene of Citizen Kane. I don't know how I missed that. I've watched that movie a half dozen times over the years.

That is a small sled, I would say mandolin or banjo mandolin.

The case looks round at the bottom. Could be a mando banjo, but I'm guessing banjo case (foreshortened camera perspective).

Calls to mind the old joke:

What's the difference between a banjo and an accordion? The accordion takes longer to burn.

I'm sure that's a banjo case. I never noticed it until the last time I looked at it. Orson really knew how to stoke a fire.

And it's an end-opening "canvas" banjo case.

"Burn, banjo, burn!" as the Mandolin Power activists used to say ...

I have heard of guys 'burning up the strings' - but this was a little to literal for me. I just hope that the case was actually empty.

Those cases aren't much good anyway.
