You could fit a spacer (brass or chrome washer) under the peg if you feel the post is to high but you will have to file down the little location pin on the peg base.
You can use the box to put your old pegs in and sell them on eBay

... All-in-all, I like the new ones. I don't know what I am going to do with that box, though, with its velvety foam on the inside and serial number on the outside.

Is the box + serial number required for warranty coverage? I have no idea, but I'd want to find out (in writing, otherwise it doesn't count) before discarding the box.

Stewmac will stand behind the Waverly tuners even if you don't have the box. I don't even think my Waverly banjo tuners came in a box. The guitar and mandolin tuners did.

A little late to the chat, I also wanted to give my thumbs-up to the banjo tuner look, and to good planetarys.

I put cheapo Eagle Music 4:1's on an electric tenor project, and three of the four wouldn't hold tune, they slipped down a half to whole step. I upgraded to 18:1 Klusons that I found on Ebay as a set of four, and yay! Just what one would expect.

The look of the boxy gears on the back of the headstock I wouldn't do for an acoustic, but for a pink sparkle electric, that's rock n roll!

If I needed to make a headstock a bit thicker to make the posts shorter I might be tempted to add some veneer to the back of it .

....Once installed, the post sits higher above the headstock than the old ones (the specs are the same for the five-star, by the way, so no difference there). That means there is less of a break angle over the nut, .....

No need for the break angle to be less. Just wind the strings DOWN from the hole so that the string leaves the capstan near the BOTTOM. You may have to determine how much extra winding will be needed.

+1 as Phiphool says just wind it down if it needs more, it may not need it.

Can't do that, it wouldn't be nice. I've been playing with one since I wrote up my follow-up, and if I put tension on the post, it is super grindy and sometimes seizes up. I assume there are some broken teeth floating around in there, and I'm tempted to cut it open to see what is going on.

I don't even know if the post length is a problem yet. I might be imagining myself into trouble I don't have. This seems to be standard shape of the post for banjo tuners, so I suspect it will be just fine.
