Default Your thoughts and opinion on my first track..

    Hi everyone.

I just finished the first track off of an EP I’m working on. I would love to hear your opinions on it.

Background: it’s recorded with a four track cassette machine and my Crystal Forest five string mandolin (with a DeArmond rhythm chief pickup) straight into it.

I wish I was play'n blues in your zip code Joey... I like the song and you did a good job on the mix and arrangement. I do think the background noise is a problem for any kind of finished product though. I think your losing a lot of good sounds in there. I would try and isolate the source if possible. With your set-up I think you have a lot of suspects. Keep on play'n those blues Joey !

Thanks for the kind words! I’m working on that issue this weekend and putting ideas for the second track together as well.

Interesting to use old recording technology. Was that an intentional decision to get a certain ambient sound? Hey, I know a few characters who fool around recording on wax cylinders.

I like your playing and your tone.

    Sounds great!
All my life I wanted to be somebody, now I realize I should have been more specific.

Yes it was to get a certain sound and I’m horrible with computers! Haha

Tasty! I like your lead/soloing. You say what you need to say without cluttering it up with all sorts of unnecessary notes. I'm told Miles Davis said that knowing what not to play is more important than knowing what to play. And I like the electronics. Very inventive use of old-school technology. Reminds me of a new Joe Walsh song, and the title of his new album: "Analog Man". Good work! Good luck with the rest of your EP. And like Frankdolin said, I wish I lived near you so we could jam.

Thank you BP! I still have a lot to learn in the world of blues/jazz, and these positive responses are giving me the push I need to keep going.
