To update I’ve finished the Carter family biography and satan is real. Both good reads and I learned a lot of things I didn’t know. Right now I’m reading The Royal Wulff Murders (for all you fly fishers out there) and I have the new Bill Monroe bio teed up next.

    "Fiddler's Dream"
My favorite fiction about a musician, written by the fiddler in John Reischman's band.

    "Never Too Late"
My favorite autobiographical book. By an influential educational critic who decided to learn cello at age 40. Holt's analysis of the psychology of practice is the best I've ever seen.

I second Never Too Late. Wonderful book that I've been giving as a gift or loan for many years now.
In a somewhat similar vein, that of trying to become better at music later in life, I rather enjoyed Play It Again by Alan Rusbridger. Rusbridger was editor of the Guardian while writing this book so there's quite a lot in it that pertains to his non-musical life. Interesting too, though I kinda wished he'd written two books, one on his musical life, one on his experiences as editor.
