Thread: Setup??

  1. #1

    Default Setup??

Thinking of stepping up to a mandolin & found one at the Mandolin Store. The ones that I am interested are the Kentucky KM505 & KM506.
    Advice on these?
But more curious about the quality of the setup at the Mandolin Store.
    thanks in advance
    Steve

Do a search for Dennis Vance. Several threads written about experiences with purchases from The Mandolin Store. I haven’t saw anyone give a negative write up on them

Great choice to buy from The Mandolin Store. The setup will be good. The KM505 is a nice mandolin. Enjoy!

The Mandolin I received from them was setup perfectly. I only had to tune it (It's shipped de-tuned... which is recommended) and I lowered the bridge a tad to my liking. Those guys are great for sure! I'm actually thinking about trying to make trip down there for a visit.

I've bought three instruments from Dennis over the past 2-3 years.
All three had great setups and were great to play upon arrival.

One of the best set ups on a purchased mandolin I ever had was a Weber Custom Gallatin I bought from the Mandolin Store - that thing was so easy to play I couldn't put it down!

Dennis Vance makes his living from selling mandolins (amongst other things) - why would he send out a poorly set up one ?.
You might have to tune it up if it's drifted off,but the set up should be spot on !.

This reminded me of something funny. While looking at musical instrument reviews on Amazon I always look at the negative reviews. You'd be surprised how many people complain that they had to tune the instrument when it arrived!

Just to follow up, I have had a great experience working with Brian at the Mandolin Store. I purchased an Eastman MD605 after much consideration. More $$$ than I wanted to spend initially but then I believe you refer to it as MAS kicked in & well you know. Brian went above & beyond to make me fell comfortable making this purchase & I highly recommend him.
It looks like I should see the new Mandolin tomorrow.
thanks for all of your help!

My setup from The Mandolin Store was not to my liking.

To be fair, they offered to pay for a set up. (I declined, grumbled a bit, and set it up myself)

So you will be ok with them.
