I have the day off today and it's just my youngest daughter and I at home. I have a couple things to do on my "honey-to-do" list. I figure I can put on a movie to entertain her (she's two) and then I might be able to knock a couple things out before nap time. She picks Frozen, which is still very popular in our house. I've probably seen it 15-20 times... I have an older daughter as well. They both like this movie.

I'm doing chores, she's watching the show, I'm humming along to all the best Frozen songs, she's singing... then I stop and watch for a bit and see a part.... I've never noticed this before! Anna totally smashes Kristoff's lute on a wolfs head! I'm cringing! I hope it wasn't poor Kristoff's favorite prized instrument.

Kristoff needs a steel-bodied National Triolian lute. Kills wolves and plays da blues....

Not to worry! Kristoff always takes his beater lute with him when he's travelling.

There's a twenty minute cutscene of Kristoff in a guitar shop on the Blu-Ray. Luthier: "Oh, see, this is a classic example of wolf defense damage. Stew-Mac makes a tool just for this."

Actually, there's a short that's going to be shown before Frozen 2 with Kristoff being presented with his restored instrument by cartoon Charlie Derrington

I always cringe when I see an instrument destroyed. Everyone laughs when the guitar is busted over someone's head in the movies, I cringe. I know is probably a carboard guitar but I was raised by a musician and taught to respect, almost worship, instruments. What funny about busting a guitar?

    - But, where’s the fire poker??
    - Didn’t someone write a song about smashing a perfectly good guitar?
    - I think Anna has been watching WAY too many The Who clips of Pete Townshend.
    - Better watch that girl! She’s a BRUTE with a LUTE!

SO Sorry. I just couldn’t help myself.

I'd be ok with it if a princess saved me from being mauled (or worse) by a wolf by smashing my mandolin in its face.

Remember the scene in the film - ''The Hateful Eight'' when a 147 year old antique Martin guitar on loan from Martin was smashed to bits ??. Now that made me cringe. The look on the face of the actress spoke volumes - she knew that the guitar hadn't been swapped out for the fake one.She most likely thought that Kurt Russell wasn't going to smash it,

Just watched that Frozen wolf scene on YouTube - somebody should make a road movie out of that: Chris Thile and Claire Coffee in a car, being followed by a motor cycle gang. You guess the rest. So much to cringe about...

I have never been so bored during a Tarantino movie as I was during "the 8".

I agree. Same with fine pottery. As soon as you see a large piece of fine pottery in a movie, and especially if one of the characters identifies the maker, you know it will likely get smashed.

Like sex and violence, if it is integral to the story I will put up with it, but when it is gratuitous, and really needn't have happened, it affects my enjoyment of the rest of the movie.

I love the "Blues Brothers", but I can barely stand to watch the scene where they drive through the music store in the mall.

Why would any company/dealer even think about allowing the "real thing" to be put on a movie set...No one watching the movie will know the difference anyway...That just seems stupid to me, now Gene Autry and Roy Rogers probably did play the real thing but I never seen them bust up an instrument in their movies...Most likely their own guitars too....

Not a car aficionado. However, I've been told that some of the classic vehicles destroyed in movies are sometimes the real thing. IDK.

JeffD I've never seen a movie where the destruction of a guitar, even if it is cardboard,is necessary. It is usually done for laughs and I don't laugh.

    Me either.

Or a Ming Vase for that matter.

And yea it is often done for laughs. Destruction of potter is a comedy movie trope.
