Previously mentioned, a separate signal to the mains, (mic)

and another notching out the frequencies that are prone to feedback .. [Pickup]

    was some player's ( Sam Bush's?) approach..
I really need to study up on this. Where do you learn this stuff? I suppose I need a tutorial on different types of mics, p/u’s, monitoring set ups, hollow (acoustic) instruments and their effect on feedback, etc.

Reading back in archived threads , here, is one way, I'd suggest..

there are books on sound reinforcement (Your public Library?)
    writing about music

Plugging the Schertler XLR into one , offers the signal mute, while tuning for example..

Stuffing the plugged in pair in a pocket, means You only step on the mic cable,
not the thin one that is the part of the external pickup ..

    can you Solder?
    Well, not bad, however"...........

    I found something, imho, better.

It called a Panic Botton, $139.00, and, simply, its an on/off footswitch for an xlr.

Better than nothing. Still inconvenient for leaving the stage with the instrument.

If you use phantom power and the Neutrik XLR switched cable it will make a horrible pop in the speakers when you turn it off.
