    Default Epiphone Mandola???

Saw this add on Craigslist in Sequim Wa.

I did a simple Google search for Epiphone Mandolas... didn't come up with anything.

My favorite part... "tunes itself almost has all 8 strings" 🤓

    $100 for a mystery mando.

That 2 on the back indicates it was a factory second.

By the way, I'm sure it was imported by Epiphone. Most of the mandolins I've seen like that are laminated but at that price I might have bought it. Might being the keyword. I don't think the tuners are original but they are way better than what was probably on it.

I found this thread with the mandolins of the same ilk. Here is a picture of what the pickguard probably looked like:

I wouldn't be sure that it is a mandola. The seller labels it as "mandola/mandolin" and doesn't provide measurement of body or scale length, just asserts it is a mandola. I'm pretty sure that Epiphone made or sold mandolins in this shape. I would wager it's a mandolin, not a mandola.

I completely agree. I'm thinking the seller really doesn't know what he has and assumes he's got more than what he's actually got.

Doing some research here (thanks MikeE) and elsewhere I might offer him less. But I have enough "beaters" sitting 'round.

You could always ask the seller to measure the scale length (after explaining how).

Note the missing picguard (screw holes) and snapped off heel cap. Looks to me like the neck has moved - Caveat Emptor.
