    Default Fat Hands;

    Any tips on how to keep the meat of your index finger/hand from silencing/muffling the E string while playing? I bought an eastman recently and it's become an issue (never happened with with my kentucky or big muddy)

    When I had my Eastman I had a luthier make a new nut with the E strings moved inward a bit. Didn’t completely eliminate the issue but it did help.

    Is the neck wide enough to allow a new nut, but with the string slots cut a little wider apart?

    Practice. Takes a time to adjust to a new instrument.

    Which begs the question: if you have beefy hands, what size neck should you buy????? Any criteria for that question???

    Radius fretboard? Wider nut?
    Maybe re-evaluate how your posture is when you’re playing?

    I remember that one of the mandolins I had owned, had a radius'd neck. Felt like my fingers were always going to slide off the sides!! For that reason, I preferred a squared off fretboard.

    No doubt the radius option works for some and not for others. Just wondering if the OP had considered this as a solution.

    I hadn't considered that. My Kentucky and Big Muddy both have flat fretboards.

    If your new Eastman has a radius’d neck, that might be PART of the problem, I suppose!
