Nah, the strings were normal fluorocarbons. I recall when I saw and played it that Clifford explained the mechanism - the saddle holder has a pin underneath which passes through the support, and the saddle holder sits on the bed of silicone to give it a limited range of movement. The end of the pin links to the soundbox by clever adjustable stuff which allowed him to tension it so as not to destroy the soundbox. Cunning or what?
