    Default Mandolin straps for an F5

    Does anyone know where you can buy longer leather mandolin straps for an F5? I've bought several in stores and the longest I've found are 42". Looking for something longer.

    Thanks.

    The Golden Gate SG-5511 Shelton Leather Mandolin Strap is 44", only 2" longer.
    Do you place your strap over the shoulder or behind your neck?

    Thanks to all for the great suggestions. I was out of pocket for a few days and just now checked this thread. I normally wear the strap around my neck. With my current strap, I feel like the mandolin is right under my chin. I'll check these out. Happy pickin.

    You could contact Rod Boyes at 'Pinegrove Leather' UK :- https://www.pinegroveleather.com/Lea...pg150637-f.htm & ask him if he could make you a strap to suit your requirements. Quite a few Cafe members have bought from him & they've been pretty satisfied,

    Just got a Neotech strap for the Epi IV. Easily used on a F5 and totally adjustable for length. Way comfortable and nearly weightless. Amazon Prime got it to me quick and cheap.

    Anyone figured out the average length strap that makes most players comfortable? I sling over my right shoulder and I’m a right-handed player, as opposed to slinging around the neck. I prefer a round leather braid, rather than a flat strap, and I see that at least one or two of the strap makers that have been mentioned here, have pieces of leather at the body end that have multiple holes for various length adjustments. I also see that they’re quite expensive. I bought a Bailey strap some years ago, back when I was frivolous with my money; but now I need to be a bit more conservative.

    I am buying an F-style mandolin, tomorrow.

    Not sure there’s a one size fits all hence the multiple holes and such. Go down to your local bead/craft store and get some leather and experiment, if you’re so inclined there are videos demonstrating how to braid and such. Lots of people use shoelaces and old leather belts so you’re only limited by your imagination. Have fun!

    I am surprised to not have seen mention of the Longhollow Softy. Excellent straps, and excellent value. I have the loop for my scroll on a "moderately shorter-person" setting using the first hole for my loop. The strap itself then goes to 48 inches from the end of the loop. IOW, it has room to be longer. I have one of these on each of my Rigel (A-5), Newson (SCW), and The Loar (F5). They are regularly found right at $20 street price.

    Two very neat features:
    - the end-attachment "mechanism" is all leather -no chance of scratching- and surprisingly solid;
    - the wide area, off-center, is reversible, for either around-the-neck or right-shoulder-only wearing.

    Third feature: Yep, it's really soft. Nice on my '17 A-1!
